About
The ‘PaperCutz 4 Planet Ark’ campaign was developed from a successful pilot scheme conducted with our Founding Partner Colonial First State, Australia’s largest fund manager.
The campaign aims to reduce the amount of paper produced and wasted in printed communications that can be delivered electronically.
The production, printing and distribution of paper-based financial communications causes environmental degradation due to the trees, water and energy used, as well as the solid waste and greenhouse gases generated in the process.
An objective of the ‘PaperCutz 4 Planet Ark’ campaign is to reduce these environmental impacts by encouraging people to switch to the receipt of information via email or online. This is achieved by working with our Campaign Partners, who provide their customers with options for online receipt of communications.
For every customer that switches to electronic receipt of communications including annual reports, newsletters and statements, ‘PaperCutz 4 Planet Ark’ Campaign Partners make a donation to Planet Ark’s environmental campaigns and information services, helping us to help you work towards a climate safe future.
Campaign Background
Reducing paper usage and climate change
Most of Planet Ark’s campaigns have, at their core, the objective of tackling the major environmental issue of our time - climate change caused by global warming.
Planet Ark looks for tangible ways in which people and businesses can alter their lifestyles and practices to reduce their carbon emissions. We then develop campaigns based on behaviours like reusing, reducing and recycling; which in turn decrease the need for new products made from virgin raw materials and all the associated environmental impacts of the manufacture and distribution of these items.
Significant amounts of unsustainably harvested wood, water and energy are used in the creation, printing and distribution of paper-based financial communications. Add to that the solid waste and greenhouse gas emissions generated by these processes, which end up in landfill or are released into our atmosphere, and you end up with a system of ecological destruction with implications for climate change.
If we reduce the amount of paper used, we can deliver immediate and substantial beneficial environmental impacts by reducing demands on wood, water and energy supplies, as well as reducing waste to landfill and greenhouse gas emissions.
Our latest campaign to remove barriers to action, thereby reducing carbon emissions, is ‘PaperCutz 4 Planet Ark’. The ‘PaperCutz 4 Planet Ark’ campaign works with businesses to encourage the switch from paper-based to electronic communication.
It is a campaign that works with businesses that consume large amounts of paper when communicating with clients - communications that can be delivered electronically, such as account and investor statements and annual reports.
